“ My work is narrative. I explore the world through nature and culture, collecting memories from experiences both sensorial and emotional. I tell stories through visual imagery and writings that reflect the inner workings of my soul. My work is detailed and methodical. I make sketches and patterns until I get the feeling that lets me know it’s right. My work features textures and layers resembling nature in mixed-media and writing that convey messages while vibrant colors evoke emotions. The moments I share in a necklace, dress, or poem retell my stories to my audience and serve as archives for myself.
I reject the societal ideologies that suppress freedom and obstruct our ancestral connection to the natural world. I speak up through making art that tells of a new idea or perspective in living in this world, one that embraces change, connects with nature and ourselves, and tells a story to create a sense of oneness. Storytelling is a practice of great importance in many indigenous communities. It is an educator and connector through cultures around the world. My work expresses that to live is to be as we are, in the collective, to contribute to the harmony with the world we live in.”
